John Pruitt, Sr. was a Confederate soldier who
settled after the war along the banks of the Buffalo River in the area now known
as Pruitt Access. Pruitt's Historic Stone Cabin was built in 1930 by Harve
Pruitt, the grandson of John Pruitt, Sr. It is located about 2 miles outside of
Jasper, Arkansas and within walking distance of the Little Buffalo River. The
Little Buffalo River runs through the town of Jasper and is a smaller but
equally picturesque river.
Karen Holmes, Harve's granddaughter, and her husband David, are the current
owners. They have restored the cabin in a thoroughly modern and tasteful
fashion, while preserving its historic integrity. The 109 acres upon which the
cabin sits is virtually unchanged with its large sprawling green lawn. A shaded
foot path follows a mountain stream to the banks of the Little Buffalo River
where you will find a first class swimming hole.
Pruitt's Historic Stone Cabin offers easy access to all the area's outdoor
adventures including hiking, canoeing or just taking a scenic drive. There are
shops in Jasper including grocery store and antique shops and several
restaurants to select from if you prefer not to cook. Come dressed to relax and
enjoy.
