   A dear friend was in the hospital critically ill. Her family had gathered around her bedside. Thinking she was asleep, they talked quietly among themselves and looked back over the years of their shared time as a family. They talked about how lucky they had been, about the health and prosperity they had enjoyed, but that roused the patient.

    "Let me tell you something," she said, "And don't you ever forget it. You have not been LUCKY. You have been BLESSED."

    God assures us that ALL things work together for the good of those that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. For the Christian, the events of life are not based on luck. They are part of His plan for their life and every good thing they receive is a gift from Him. We're not trusting luck. Not trusting fate. We're trusting Him. We don't need rabbits' feet or four leaf clovers. We have God.

    Right now, you're thinking, "Well, what about all those sorry humans I know who seem to have all the luck despite the way they live their lives." They, too, are in the hands of God and it is up to Him, not you, to order things so that they reap what they sow. He assures us that He will. The laws of reaping and sowing will apply to all.

    Your other thought is, "Why do bad things happen to me?" The world is not a perfect place. We all take our lumps and sometimes those bad things are the refiner's fire that purifies us. God doesn't send them, but he lets this world run its course. The things it does to us can't overwhelm us because He is always there to offer comfort and guidance and to make them work out for our good.

    Read Psalms 16 for a taste of what God says about your relation to fate and luck:

 Preserve me, O God; for in thee do I put my trust.
O my soul, thou has said unto the Lord, Thou are my Lord, my goodness extendeth not to thee;
But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.
Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god; their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.
The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup; thou maintenest my lot.
The lines are fallen into me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
I will bless the Lord who hath given me counsel; my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth; my flesh also shall rest in hope.
For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine holy one to see corruption.
Thou wilt shew me the path of life; in thy presence is fulness of joy; at they right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

    Do you want God's presence in your life? If so you have to be a friend of God. You need to talk to him every day, Pray daily. When you pray, first thing ask for his forgiveness daily. We all think or do things every day we need to be forgiven for. After that thank him for everything good that has come to you in your life. If you have sickness in your life pray for health, don't pray the sickness. If you have problems in your life, pray for answers. If you need help in your finances, pray for work, not money. These are some of the things that have made my life better.
